Board members serve as advocates for the College of Human Environmental Sciences (CHES) to prospective students, current students, parents, alumni, friends of the College, industry and organizations served by the College. Advocacy indicates an active involvement with the College, being knowledgeable and supportive of the programs and people, participating in various events and activities, and encouraging other alumni to reconnect to OSU and the College.
Board members have a shared responsibility for working with the Dean and College administration to strategically plan the alumni activities and events that will assist CHES in meeting annual and long-term goals. These goals will focus on student recruitment and retention, and assistance with internships and job placement, with a continuous commitment to quality and innovation in all areas.

Alumni Board Committees

Student Recruitment

The purpose of the recruitment committee is to take an active role in recruiting incoming freshmen and transfer students to the College of Human Environmental Sciences. This committee is responsible for soliciting interested parties who will assist with recruiting activities and events throughout the year.

The CHES Alumni Board of Directors established the CHES Alumni Board Endowed Scholarship to be awarded each year to an incoming freshman. Additionally, this committee will propose and implement new ideas for involving CHES alumni in recruiting activities.

Student Career Development

Members of the Student Career Development Committee will provide guidance, experiences, and resources to students in preparation for professional experiences such as internships or full-time positions. The committee will be responsible for identifying experiences that will better prepare students for the work-force or graduate school, and will assist in implementing and overseeing these specific programs/experiences through a partnership with college alumni. Evaluation of current student career development services is an additional purpose of this committee.

Leadership

Leadership Development Committee members function as an advisory board contributing advice, resources, and time toward the implementation of a comprehensive four-year student leadership program. This committee is responsible for soliciting interested parties who will assist with student leadership development both in and out of the classroom. Additionally, this committee will propose and implement new ideas for advancing the CHES leadership development program. The role of the Alumni Board members will be to identify skills and resources of benefit to student leaders while they are in college and in the first few years after they complete their degrees.

Board Development

The Board Development Committee for Board of Director candidates is a standing committee of the CHES Alumni Association. This committee is responsible for seeking out and soliciting interested parties to become candidates for election to the CHES Alumni Board of Directors; developing the summer planning session and any other leadership development sessions or topics to be included in conjunction of the regular meeting of the Board. This committee is also responsible for planning and delivering the Board orientation for new members.

General Activities

The board also participates in various activities that support all areas of the College, including letter campaigns to new, current and graduating students, alumni recruitment, program support and attendance and representation with the College at various activities and events.
