CHES Ambassadors

The Ambassadors are HES students engaged in strategic leadership teams that focus on peer mentoring and instruction within orientation courses; connecting with employers, alumni, donors, and friends; and articulating the CHES undergraduate programs to prospective students.

CHES Student Council

Meet Your 2009-2010 CHES Student Council

Student Council promotes involvement within the College and on the OSU campus. The group supports the work of the CHES student organizations, encourages interaction between faculty and students, and coordinates activities with other university groups and Student Councils. The Council consists of :

  • Executive Officers
  • Activity Chairpersons
  • Organization Representatives

 

upCHES SCHOLAR LEADERS 

HES Scholar Leader 

Scholar Leaders assist incoming students in developing leadership qualities that support their career objectives. They function as a support group and networking system, sharing information about the opportunities, activities and services in the college and on campus. This group interacts with faculty, staff and alumni and prepares students to compete for leadership awards. To be involved with Scholar Leaders:

  • Complete application the summer before Freshman year
  • Enroll full-time in the College of Human Environmental Sciences (12 hours or more) and do not have more than 15 credit hours completed.


 

upDesign, Housing and Merchandising

INTERNATIONAL FACILITY  MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION--STUDENT CHAPTER (IFMA)

This is the student chapter of a professional organization which promotes the profession of facilities management, encourages professional development, and introduces students to the philosophy and practice of facility management. Membership is open to any student with an interest in facilities planning and management or large-scale commercial interior design. 

MERCHANDISING  & APPAREL DESIGN ASSOCIATION (MADA)

Students with a major or minor in apparel merchandising, interiors merchandising, or apparel design and production are invited to join. MADA helps members understand the various career areas, promotes fellowship among students and faculty, and represents DHM in the college. Leadership opportunities are offered through officer elections and committee membership.

AMERICAN  SOCIETY OF INTERIOR DESIGNERS--STUDENT CHAPTER (ASID)

This student chapter is recognized by the American Society of Interior Designers and promotes the profession of interior design, exposes students to the professional community, and explores the variety of careers available in the field. Membership is open to any student majoring in interior design or a related design discipline.

 

upHuman Development and Family Science

HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND FAMILY SCIENCE CLUB (HDFS CLUB)

All students interested in families and children, majoring or minoring in HDFS are invited to join this organization. The HDFS Club helps students explore opportunities by providing occasions for interaction with a variety of professionals, faculty members and career advisors. This organization enhances a student’s college experience through contact with other students who have similar interests.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION CLUB (ECE CLUB)

The Early Childhood Education club was founded during the Fall 2005 semester. Students majoring in HDFS with an option in Early Childhood Education are encouraged to join. The club’s purpose is to provide opportunities for students to interact with others pursuing early childhood certification and to further professional growth as teachers of young children.

 

upHotel Restaurant and Administration

CLUB MANAGERS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA (CMAA)

CMAA helps any student enrolled in Hotel and Restaurant Administration courses become acquainted with, and develop an interest in, careers related to private club management. Members have opportunities to develop professional and academic relationships with other student and professional members nationwide. CMAA raises money through catering events, which helps subsidize costs for national and local trips, as well as give students real life work experiences. 

HOSPITALITY SOCIETY

Membership in Hospitality Society enables students to develop friendships as a means of exploring opportunities for service in the fields of hospitality and tourism. It promotes cooperation among HRAD students and industry professionals, while encouraging the highest ethical standards. Any student enrolled in a Hotel and Restaurant Administration course may be a member.

HOSPITALITY DAYS

This organization helps students gain hands-on experience by planning and managing the annual Hospitality Days. This event includes educational programs by industry professionals, a career fair, an honor banquet, and interviews. Students gain experience in planning, and managing a special event. Attendees are HRAD students, high school students interested in HRAD, students from other universities, and hospitality organizations across the nation. A Special Event Management course offered by HRAD is in conjuction with the activities of this organization. For course information, contact an HRAD advisor. Membership is open to anyone.

 

upNutritional Sciences

NUTRITIONAL SCIENCES CLUB

This departmental club assists students in getting a start in their profession. Club members develop professional and social competencies and establish networks, while providing services to the department, community, and campus. Members are in a variety of majors including dietetics, pre-med, and foods and nutrition (emphasis nutrition and exercise). Any student with an interest in nutrition, foods, and health is welcome to join.

 


upHONOR ORGANIZATIONS

College honor organizations are designated for students who excel academically and meet certain requirements. These organizations have elected officers and usually meet once a month.

KAPPA OMICRON NU Kappa Omicron Nu’s mission is "empowered leaders for Family and Consumer Sciences."  Their purposes are to promote graduate study and research and to stimulate scholarship and leadership toward the well-being of individuals and families throughout the world.

Membership: Invitations are sent to students with 45 hours or more in a declared major in Family and Consumer Sciences, in the top 25% of their class, with a 3.2 GPA or better, and graduate students who have completed half of their program with a 3.5 GPA.  (Transfer students must complete two semesters at OSU prior to being invited to join).

PHI UPSILON OMICRON

Phi Upsilon Omicron recognizes and promotes academic excellence in all areas of Human Environmental Sciences.  Members develop professional and personal leadership qualities and provide service opportunities to the community and college.Membership:  Invitations are sent to students who have completed 45 hours and have a GPA of 3.0 or above.SIGMA PHI OMEGA

This honor society recognizes and honors excellence in the field of gerontology and aging. It promotes friendship, scholarship, professionalism, and services to older persons. The organization is open to students and professionals with an interest in gerontology/aging studies and related fields. Undergraduates must have a GPA of at least 3.3 and graduate students must have at least a 3.5 GPA to be eligible for membership. 

ETA SIGMA DELTA

Eta Sigma Delta recognizes students in hospitality and tourism for outstanding academic achievement, meritorious service, and demonstrated professionalism.  Membership in this honor society promotes continued excellence and scholarship among both students and professional members. 

Membership: Invitations are sent to students with an interest in the industry  who have achieved a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2.
